The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) expresses its deepest sorrow, shock, and outrage at the tragic death of Dr. Robert Waiye, a committed and compassionate medical doctor who served with distinction. Dr. Waiye was last engaged with Simbu Provincial Health Authority, where he continued to provide dedicated service until his untimely passing due to severe injuries sustained in a violent assault.
The Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Robin Oge condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms, stating: “This is a senseless and brutal act of violence against a doctor who devoted his life to saving others. It is not only an attack on an individual, but an attack on the health system and the values we uphold as a nation.”
Dr. Oge said, “Justice must be served, and those responsible must be held fully accountable.” He said, “NCDPHA will not tolerate violence against any health worker, and we call on authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly and decisively brought to justice.”
The NCD Provincial Health Authority’s management stands in full solidarity with Simbu Provincial Health Authority (SiPHA), the Waiye family, and all Provincial Health Authorities across Papua New Guinea who continue to face increasing risks and pressures in their efforts to deliver essential health services. The Authority reiterates its unwavering commitment to advocating for safer working environments for all health workers nationwide.
NCDPHA condemns this violent assault in the strongest terms and calls on community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and citizens across the country to unite in ensuring that such acts are never repeated. Violence against health workers is unacceptable and must be confronted with firm action and collective resolve.
Dr. Waiye’s service, dedication, and humanity will be remembered with honour. His passing is a profound loss to the medical fraternity and to the people he served. May his soul rest in peace.
