The Tuberculosis Program Unit at the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) has collaborated with the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and carried out TB awareness sessions at selected marketplaces, schools, and workplaces across Port Moresby.

The key highlights of the awareness included:

  • TB signs and symptoms
  • TB prevention and treatment
  • TB transmission processes
  • TB patient care

This year’s theme, “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Nations, Powered by People,” emphasizes a bold call to action and message of hope, affirming that ending Tuberculosis is achievable even amid global challenges. The theme highlights the importance of country leadership, community engagement, and multisectoral collaboration, stressing that decisive action, strategic investment, and rapid implementation of WHO recommendations are essential to turn the tide on the TB epidemic.

The Chief Executive Officer for NCDPHA Dr. Robin Oge stated: “Tuberculosis remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in our city. Through these awareness programs, we are empowering our communities with knowledge and encouraging early testing and treatment. Ending TB is possible if we work together with determination and unity.”

TB Program Manager Israel Naraman added: “Our focus is on reaching young people and community hubs where TB transmission risks are highest. By educating the public on prevention, treatment, and care, we are building a stronger, healthier Port Moresby. This is a collective fight, and every individual has a role to play.”
