The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) has officially launched its Clinical Governance Committee, marking a significant milestone in strengthening health service delivery and ensuring the highest standards of clinical care across Health Facilities in the National Capital District.
The launch event in Port Moresby brought together senior health professionals, management, and key stakeholders to underscore the importance of clinical governance in improving patient safety, accountability, and quality of care. The occasion was further enriched by the participation of Dr. Priya and her team from the National Department of Health’s Health Service Standards Development Project (HSSDP), whose expertise and collaboration continue to shape national frameworks for clinical excellence.
NCDPHA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Robin Oge, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to excellence in health services:
“This Committee represents our determination to uphold the highest standards of clinical practice. By embedding accountability and continuous improvement into our systems, we are ensuring that patients receive safe, effective, and compassionate care. NCDPHA is proud to lead this initiative for the benefit of our communities.”
Deputy Chairman of the Clinical Governance Committee, Dr. Siwi Steven Wawe, outlined the Committee’s role in guiding clinical standards and supporting frontline staff:
“Clinical governance is about creating a culture of responsibility and learning. Our committee will provide oversight, guidance, and support to ensure that every clinical decision is made with the patient’s best interest at heart. Together, we will strengthen trust in our health services and empower our workforce to deliver quality care.”
The establishment of the Clinical Governance Committee reflects NCDPHA’s broader mission to build resilient health systems, improve service delivery, and promote community confidence in public healthcare. The collaboration with the NDoH HSSDP team ensures that NCDPHA’s governance structures are aligned with national standards, reinforcing a unified approach to quality health care across Papua New Guinea.
