The data shows that the total number of HIV testing for quarter 1-3 was thirty-three thousand-five-hundred and seventy-nine (33579) and eight hundredth and fifty-five (855) positive HIV cases are being identified and treated.
The NCD PHA’s health facilities and Mission run health facilities in Port Moresby are carrying out the HIV/AIDS testing for free. It was a growing concern for the residents of the National Capital District and the Motu Koitabu Communities to do HIV tests to contain the spread of HIV.
The NCDPHA’s management has raised serious concern on the health and wellbeing of the city residents due an increased number of positive HIV cases in 2025. The clinical staff of NCD PHA is currently treating Nine-thousand-seven-hundred eight (9708) HIV patients.
The people between the age range of 15-34 years are mostly infected with HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infection Diseases (STI’s).
The Chief Executive Officer for NCD Provincial Health Authority, Dr. Robin Oge said that all pregnant mothers must go for HIV testing as well as all adults who are sexually active,” He said that HIV is also transmitted from Mothers to Child during childbirth and the only way to protect the baby is thought early detection and treatment.
Dr. Oge further emphasized that all HIV patients can still live a normal life and enjoy the same privilege like others. “It is very important to practice safe sex to protect oneself from HIV/AIDS,” said Dr. Oge.
The Management of NCD PHA is very committed in ensuring that all city residents receive decent health care services.
