
The Non-Communicable Disease program officers under Public Health Division have conducted public awareness on Prostate Cancer at 8-mile Universal Church in Moresby Northeast district. It is one of the most common cancers that affect males.
It forms from the cells in the prostate gland that grow uncontrollably, forming tumors that can spread to other parts of the body. The exact cause of Prostate Cancer is unknown.
The risk factors are:
· Age (50 years and above)
· Family history (Genetics)
· Obesity- Over Weight
· Unhealthy diet
· Smoking
Here are the common signs of Prostate Cancer and symptoms:
· Men may have trouble urinating,
· Blood in urine or semen,
· Pelvic discomfort
· Erectile dysfunction.
Prostate Cancer happens in males due to age; family history, genetics, and lifestyle factors (like diet) can increase risk.
Despite being one of the most common cancers in male worldwide, it is curable id diagnosed early.
The non-communicable disease program Manager Sr. Eileen Thomas said that miniating health diet, doing regular exercise and quit smoking will help keep the body health.
The Chief Executive Officer for National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCD PHA) said, Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men worldwide.
“While many cases grow slowly and may not cause serious harm, aggressive forms can spread quickly and become life-threatening. Early detection through screening (like PSA blood tests or digital rectal exams) greatly improves treatment outcomes.
