On 30th September 2025, the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority Board, the Chief Executive Officer Dr. Robin Oge, and the Senior Executive Management team commemorated PNG’s 50th Independence Anniversary. All NCD PHA clinics and hospitals hosted this important and historic event with staff and patients.

The celebration served as a reminder to all health professionals and citizens of the nation of how far the country’s health system had progressed. It was also a moment of reflection and appreciation for the achievements and growth of Papua New Guinea’s health system over the past 50 years.

The PHAs in all 22 provinces of the nation were reminded to plan ahead for the years to come by building on the health systems that had been established and sustained for the past five decades. The NCD Provincial Health Authority’s management remained deeply committed to upholding the health and well-being of the people of NCD and the core values of service and compassion.

During the event, the Chief Executive Officer for NCD PHA, Dr. Robin Oge, stated that the nation’s independence symbolized not only government sovereignty but also the provision of quality and equitable healthcare to every citizen of this country and the people of the National Capital District. “As we celebrated our Independence, we reiterated our dedication to ensuring that the health needs of our city residents and the nation were met, and that health indicators were improved,” said Dr. Oge.

He noted that the nation had progressed significantly in various sectors, including the health sector, but addressing healthcare challenges remained a top priority. Dr. Oge further emphasized that NCD PHA must invest in modern technology such as digital and artificial intelligence, strengthen health education programs, foster research and innovation, and expand community outreach initiatives to ensure that quality and equitable healthcare was readily accessible.

The board and management of NCD PHA also reaffirmed that they had been strategizing to improve health services in the National Capital District from 2025 onwards, through cooperation and partnerships, to ensure that quality and effective healthcare services were consistently available to the people of NCD.
