The Metoreia Urban Health Centre (MUHC), under the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA), proudly celebrates the 1st Anniversary of its Labour Ward operations, marking a year of safe deliveries and quality maternal care for the Motu Koita and wider NCD communities.
On this day last year, MUHC welcomed its very first newborn. Since then, the Labour Ward has successfully delivered a total of 511 babies, a remarkable achievement that reflects the commitment of NCDPHA to improving maternal and child health services.
NCDPHA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Oge, commended the milestone as a testament to strong leadership, community partnership, and the dedication of frontline health workers.
The success of the Labour Ward has been made possible through the support of key partners, including the Former Motu Koita Assembly Chairman and Management and the Australian Government, whose contributions helped establish this vital facility.
Special recognition was given to the hardworking midwives, led by Sr Ruth Roboam, and the dedicated medical team including Dr Tore (Former O&G SMO), Dr Shalom Nouairi, HEO Issiah Mongri, and HEO Kerolyn Kolapen. Their tireless service in both birthing and postnatal care has ensured safe outcomes for mothers and babies.
Key highlights of the first year include:
• 511 safe deliveries at MUHC Labour Ward.
• Expanded access to maternal care for Motu Koita and NCD communities.
• Strong partnerships with local leadership and international partners.
• Dedicated midwives and medical staff providing compassionate care.
On behalf of the management of NCD PHA, the Chief Executive Officer Dr. Robin Oge extends his heartfelt gratitude to all staff and management of Metoreia Clinic, partners, and community members who have contributed to this milestone. “Together, we continue to build a healthier future for mothers and children in Port Moresby,” said Dr. Oge.
