The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) proudly joined the global community in commemorating World Cancer Day with a major event hosted at Gerehu General Hospital in Port Moresby.

The program brought together health professionals, patients, and community members to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. The event highlighted NCDPHA’s ongoing commitment to improving public health outcomes and empowering communities with vital information.

As part of the commemoration, NCDPHA also conducted Cancer Awareness activities at Waigani Market and Gordons Market, reaching hundreds of residents and marketgoers with life-saving messages on cancer risks, screening, and healthy lifestyle choices. These outreach efforts ensured that information was accessible to everyday people in their workplaces and communities, reinforcing the theme of collective responsibility in the fight against cancer.

NCDPHA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Robin Oge, underscored the importance of collective action:
“Cancer affects families, workplaces, and communities across Papua New Guinea. By coming together on World Cancer Day, we remind ourselves that early detection saves lives and that awareness is the first step toward prevention. NCDPHA will continue to stand with our people to ensure access to information, care, and support.”

The World Cancer Day commemoration at Gerehu General Hospital, complemented by the outreach at Waigani and Gordons Markets, reflects NCDPHA’s broader mission to strengthen health services and promote healthier lifestyles across the National Capital District.
