12 VOLUNTEERS FROM WONKWANG UNIVERSITY IN PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA ARE NOW WORKING AT GEREHU GENERAL HOSPITAL

The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority Boards and management has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wonkwang University on the 23rd of September this year to jointly promote the training of Health professionals, research and development, Medical Services, and industrial advancement in the field of health, biomedical sciences, and Korean medicine.

With the focus on improving Public Health and strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. The volunteers are Physicians, doctors, and students will work at Gerehu General Hospital for three days. The team will provide medical services and apply Korean medicine to patients at Gerehu General Hospital. The focus is to do dental checks, treat nerve/muscle problems and engage initial discussion for further bilateral projects.  

The NCD PHA’s management and the hospital management are working alongside the volunteers to learn news skills and provide better health services to the people of National Capital District.

The Executive Director for World Bong Gong Foundation Mr. David Cho said that the team are now providing minor dental services as well as medical services.


“We will do better next year when we have the fully medical equipment with us.”

The Chief Executive Officer for National Capital District Provincial Health Authority Dr. Robin Oge has acknowledged the volunteers from Wonkwang University for coming to PNG to work with NCD PHA.
“The hospital management and staff of Gerehu Hospital will learn from the volunteers and build good working relations. This will also pave the way for NCD PHA’s staff to further their studies in Wonkwang University.”  

The NCD PHA’s boards and management will work very closely with Wonkwang University and other important partners to ensure that its staff acquire the skills needed to cater the health needs of the growing populations in Port Moresby.
